Clear design expectations

Provide clear expectations for town-centre and appropriate development areas: well-proportioned buildings, welcoming entrances, attractive storefronts, durable finishes, suitable landscaping, and respect for local heritage.

Simpler approvals

Support simpler approvals for applications that meet basic standards, publish processing targets, and implement technological assistance to the planning review process. Impose fewer barriers thereby reducing developer soft costs expenditures and increasing the amount of money they spend on the quality of the building itself.

Dependable maintenance

Establish clear, dependable standards for litter removal, weed control, sign and sidewalk repairs, and the upkeep of public landscaping, with particular attention to our community’s entrances and the public spaces residents cherish most. Furthermore, press the provincial Ministry of Transportation and Transit to keep the highway corridor through Salmon Arm clean, tidy, and well maintained, with clear expectations for regular upkeep and timely responses to reported problems.

Efficient public works projects

Coordinate public improvements with scheduled road and utility work, and account for ongoing maintenance costs from the beginning. Save for and wisely execute long-term public works projects, while scrutinizing and incentivizing contractors to ensure projects are completed according to a pre-arranged timeline. Where applicable, redouble efforts to make sure our public works projects look great.
